Overview

The church "St. Apostles Peter and Paul ”in Nikopol is known to the locals as the“ monastery ”. Dedicated to the apostles Peter and Paul. The temple is a medieval building, built approximately between the 13th and 14th centuries, during the Second Bulgarian Kingdom. Its name first appears in historical sources from 1871, namely in the notes of Felix Kanitz, who notes that the church was used for some time by locals as a Catholic church. Other historical sources (on Balsh from 1914) indicate that the temple was already in ruins. In 1927 it was declared a historical monument. The church is a small cross-domed basilica, measuring 10x7 meters. The exterior is made of white stone arches. Unfortunately, the condition of the structure is not very good, as the western part is almost completely destroyed.
