Church of St. John the Baptist in the village of Bobeshino
Overview
St. John the Baptist is a Bulgarian church in the village of Bobeshino, Kyustendil municipality. The church was built in 1886. It is located in the Peshtar neighborhood, on the Bulgarian-Serbian border, above the village. In 1920, according to the Treaty of Neuilly, the border passed through the temple itself, but after the intervention of the local population, the international commission agreed and it was passed a few meters from the apse. The church is a single-nave building with a semi-cylindrical vault with wooden cladding. The south and north walls end with a cornice, which also runs along the west wall like consoles to support the arch outlining the arch. The iconostasis is made of wood without thread, filled with floral ornaments, except for the altar doors, which are carved. The icons are the work of the painter Evstatiy Popdimitrov from the village of Osoy, now in northern Macedonia. Adjacent to the church are several war graves from the wars of the early nineteenth century. The church celebrates the day of the saint - St. Ivan's Day on January 7.
