St. Panteleimon Church, Brodilovo village
Overview
The Church of St. Panteleimon is a large and dignified church. Built in 1911. It has been declared a cultural monument. It is located in the northeastern part of the village of Brodilovo.
In it is one of the last carved iconostasis in Strandzha, a masterpiece of the local carver - teacher Yannis.
Due to the poor condition of the church, it has not been in operation for 25 years. For a long time the icons from the iconostasis and the old icon collection were kept in the hall and storage of the local community center. They were handed over with inventories from mayor to mayor when the local government changed. Years ago, some of the icons were restored, but due to the inappropriate storage conditions, a new restoration was necessary.
In 2011, with funds from the state, the municipality and a little help from the church board, the church underwent major repairs, conservation and restoration of the iconostasis and another 40 icons, including all icons of the royal order. After a liturgy by Metropolitan Ioaniki of Sliven, the church was reopened for visits.
