Church of St. Archangel Michael village of Elhovo

Overview

The church in the village of Elhovo, municipality Nikolaevo was built almost 180 years ago. The people of the village wanted a large, spacious church. To get permission for this, they went all the way to Istanbul and Vidin. They built the church in 1842 with their own strength and resources. The church had a wooden roof. It also served as a church school.

Before the Liberation it was burned by the Turks and for many years it stood like that - burnt.

After the Liberation, the people of the village decided to rebuild the church. They collected money and bought for its repair master mouth Gencho from Tryavna - a colleague and equal to the mouth Kolyo Ficheto, and master Karamfil and his workers from the village. The church in this form, with these new domes, was completed in 1882.
