Overview

The Holy Trinity Church in the village of Yugovo was built in 1840 and painted two years later. Currently, the frescoes are extremely well preserved, the temple is unique! It is amazing that there are 20 Orthodox Christian chapels around, most of which have been restored and built in the last ten years.

The village of Yugovo is located in the Middle Rhodopes, very close to Laki and the Bachkovo Monastery. The village is known for its master builders - skilled craftsmen of houses, fountains and bridges, who had a secret language, the so-called "Meshren dialect", with the help of which they communicated, undisturbed among themselves and kept the secrets of the craft. Thanks to their skill, the locals were highly valued by the Ottoman Empire and managed to retain their right to profess their Christian faith.

One of the main Roman pre-Rhodope roads from the Thracian lowland through the Rozhen pass to the Aegean Sea, now called the "Old Road", passed through the village. There are two Roman bridges, part of this road - one at the north and the other at the south end of the village.
