Church of St. Theodore Tyrone in the village of Sovolyano

Overview

The church “St. Theodore Tyrone ”in the village of Sovolyano was built in 1834 on the foundations of an older church and is the second church built in the area in the first half of the XIX century, after the Metropolitan“ Assumption ”in Kyustendil in 1816. . Theodore Tyrone ”is located in the center of the village, near the stadium. It is single-nave, dug three steps into the ground. Its dimensions are 18 m long and 4 m wide. The iconostasis is original in its construction. The icons were painted in 1860 and are the work of an unknown master painter who knows the shape well, feels the color and achieves a complex harmonization of tones. Subsequently, a new part of the western side was added to the church, and not far from the church in 1887 a bell tower with a diameter of 4 m and a height of 13 m was erected. It is located about 7 km from Kyustendil.
