Overview

St. St. Peter and Paul ”is a Bulgarian Revival church in the village of Prekolnitsa, Kyustendil municipality. The church is located in the center of the village. It is a three-nave pseudo-basilica, built of cut quarry stones and red bricks, welded with white mortar. It was built in 1848 according to the donor's stone inscription above the door leading to the nave and the sultan's firman, kept in the National Library in Sofia. It measures 22 X 12 m, an open massive attached narthex from the west and a meshed gallery of the women's ward. The central nave of the nave has a ceiling with three blind domes. The iconostasis is two-tiered, filled with bright colors in a warm range, the work of master Kote Guvi (1820 - 1910) from the town of Sapareva Banya. The altar doors are decorated with carvings, as well as the arch above them (with the image of a double-headed eagle), the wreath and the bishop's throne. The icons are the work of Petros Georgiadis from Ioannina and were painted in 1849. [1] The church is distinguished by a restrained dissected volume, enriched with openwork of the metal bars of the window openings and a medieval sound of the portico to the west with the wavy massive cornice above it. In the yard is preserved part of the cell school - the teacher's room and the furnace for ritual celebrations with the inscription "June 1, 1848". In the eastern part of the yard are the tombstones of the founders Miter Botsev and Malin Stoyanovich. The church is a cultural monument. The church celebrates the holy apostles on June 29 and June 30.
