Tsentralni Hali (Sofia Central Market Hall)
Overview
The building of Sofia Central Market Hall is impressive and beautiful, Neo-Renaissance style, featuring elements of Neo-Byzantine as well as Neo-Baroque architecture.
Construction began in 1909, designed by architect Naum Torbov. The hall opened in 1911 and became an important commercial center of the city. It was closed in 1988 for reconstruction and renovation with funding being provided by an Israeli company and opened in 2000.
On the ground floor, there are stalls selling foodstuff like bread and pastries, olives, nuts and sweets, and rose oil products, souvenirs, etc. On the upper level, the shops are selling clothing, accessories, and jewellery. On one level under the ground floor, there is a Bulgarian fast-food restaurant.
