Sini vir waterfall near village of Medven

Overview

On the southern slopes of Stara Planina, not far from Kotel, is nestled the beautiful village of Medven - the birthplace of Zahari Stoyanov. The beautiful centuries-old forests around are reason enough to walk in this area, and if you want to see a special place that combines fabulous natural beauty and mysterious legend, you should visit Sini vir.

The small waterfall on the Medvenska River does not impress with its size - its height is about 3-4 meters, but the cut rocks, greenery and the blue pond where the water descends, form a magical view that delivers true pleasure to the eyes and soul. The waterfall can be reached on foot, first passing through the village of Medven, then through the Ecovillage "Blue Pool" and finally along a path that leads to the beautiful water formation.

Apart from the beautiful nature, the Sini Vir waterfall is also famous for a legend that attracts many adventurers not only from Bulgaria, but also from the whole Balkan Peninsula. Legend has it that under the waterfall lies the entrance to an underground cave in which a large treasure is hidden. It is not known when, how and where this rumor started, but the temptation for treasure hunters is so great that they are ready to risk their lives and dive into the often turbulent and hostile waters of the swamp, in which whirlpools are formed, for to discover wealth. Unfortunately, some of them are not sufficiently prepared - more than 10 have found their deaths, pursuing the legend and the innumerable possessions under Sini vir Waterfall.
