Reseleshki kukli rock formation
Overview
Rock formation Kupenite - Reseleshki kukli is located about 1.5 km northwest of the center of the village of Reselets on the way to the village of Breste. About 200 m downstream is the beautiful Reseleski waterfall Skoka, with a passage cave behind it.
Reseleski kukli are over 20 rock towers over 40 m above the riverbed. According to geologists from the Geological Phenomena of Bulgaria, Kupenite Rock Formation is a group of rock puppets formed among Maastrichtian limestones with flint during the last tens of thousands of years of the Quaternary.
Limestones were formed about 70 million years ago in normally salty shallow and warm seas. Rocks with unique shapes and relief are the result of the action of atmospheric water on the Maastrichtian limestones, due to the susceptibility of this type of rock to karstification. The lack of vegetation on the slopes further favors their development.
Such forms are most often formed in core limestones or limestones with flint concretions, such as those of the Mezdra Formation.
