Overview

The State Art Gallery in Veliko Tarnovo is one of the oldest galleries in the country.

Situated next to the impressive Assenovtsi monument, the gallery occupies a lovely building from the early 20th century. Inside, the collection is fairly small, which makes it easier for those who do not have much idea of ​​Bulgarian art. A collection of icons can be seen, and the main collection includes paintings by various 20th-century artists with views of Veliko Tarnovo or historical events in the region. The artists skillfully used the colors, especially depicting the houses on the hill, which the visitor to the gallery can compare just by looking out the window.

The three main genres of fine arts are represented - painting, graphics, and sculpture, as the main place is given to painting. The exhibited paintings of Bulgarian artists are from different generations and periods of the development of Bulgarian fine arts, arranged in chronological order.
