Venetsa Cave
Overview
Venetsa Cave is located near the village of Oreshets in the municipality of Dimovo, Vidin district and is among the beautiful caves near Belogradchik. It is named after the Venetsa ridge (from the Western Stara Planina) near the village. The natural landmark Venets Cave in the Chukara area has been declared for its protection. . There are many and various formations in the cave. Ice crystals, stalactites, stalagmites, aragonite crystals, clustered stalactites (rare in Bulgarian caves), calcite formations, etc. can be seen. Crystals of different colors are scattered throughout the Belogradchik Fortress due to the crystallization of water and minerals in the surrounding rocks. There is an entity resembling the Virgin Mary. It is open to visitors on June 1, 2015. The cave is open for visits all year round with summer and winter working hours, on Tuesdays and Sundays. It is a day off every Monday. Advance arrangements are required for groups. In the cave is built artistic color lighting (funded by a project of the EU program), which gives a spectacular view of the formations.
