Duhlata Cave
Overview
Duhlata is the longest cave in Bulgaria - a total length of over 18 km. It is located in the southwestern part of Vitosha Mountain, near the village of Bosnek, Pernik Municipality.
Apart from being the longest cave, it is also the one with the most complex maze in our country. It is located on 6 levels that are interconnected. There are many tunnels, galleries, and incredibly beautiful halls with limestone formations, waterfalls, and lakes that are filled with secondary karst formations and narrow, hard to overcome breaches between them.
There are 7 underground rivers flowing through the cave, which are most probably connected with the Struma River. They collect their waters and go to a karst spring.
Access is only possible with an experienced guide and after proper training. The labyrinthine nature of the cave makes it dangerous for unprepared tourists.
There are 22 species of animals living in the cave, 6 of which are bats.
Duhlata was declared a natural landmark in 1962. Its beauty is due to the magnificent cave formations, in addition to the exciting picture of its underworld. There are many beautiful sinter lakes along its entire length. It attracts more and more enthusiasts.
