Cape Emine
Overview
Cape Emine is the easternmost point of the Balkan Mountains and is considered a conditional border of the North and South Black Sea coasts. It is located 79 km south of Varna, 54 km north of Bourgas and only 14 km south of Obzor.
Cape Emine was declared a natural landmark by Order No. 1187 of April 19, 1976. The natural landmark "Cape Emine" covers 50 hectares and was declared in order to preserve remarkable geological and botanical sites.
The promontory itself is an almost vertical 60-meter rock. Hundreds of underwater and protruding rocks can be seen in the sea around the cape, more than 250 meters away. That is why the coast here is very dangerous for shipping and sailors surround it. There is a lighthouse on the bow, which directs the vessels to the Burgas Bay.
In the area of Cape Emine there are remains of a medieval monastery and the fortress Emona, the village of Emona is nearby.
The European pedestrian route E-3 ends at Cape Emine, and in the Bulgarian part the route is "Kom - Emine". North of the cape is the protected area Irakli. The beach between the resort of Irakli and Cape Emine is one of the most beautiful and is preferred by nature lovers and nudists.
