Convent "Pchelino"

Overview

The Pchelino convent is 3 km away. southwest of the Rila Monastery, next to the pilgrimage route. The temple is located in the mountains about 500 meters from the farm buildings of the convent. It was built in the 80s of the XVIII century and is dedicated to the Assumption of the Mother of God. The church is small and one-apse with an open narthex, built of stone. Its patrons are the Bosnian Metropolitan Seraphim and the hieromonk Sebastian Rilski. It is known from the preserved donor inscription that the frescoes were completed on March 9, 1834. Their author is Dimitar Molerov. In the central nave are depicted waist-length life-size saints-warriors and saints-reverends. The ceiling is wooden, decorated with oil paints - stars, flowers, etc. On the whole wall of the vestibule is the scene of the Last Judgment. The royal order icons from the iconostasis were painted in 1789 and are the work of Zachary a monk. They are currently in the Icon Gallery of the Rila Holy Monastery.
