Yuchbunar locality
Overview
Yuchbunar is an area near the village of Bogoslov, Kyustendil region. Here is a small forest of redwoods, which were declared a natural landmark in 1989. They are the oldest redwoods in Bulgaria, their age is over 130 years. The redwood was imported to Bulgaria in 1890, 1905 and 1914 by Yordan Mitrev. Now three unique centuries-old redwoods - a giant rise in the area Yuchbunar. They were declared a natural landmark in 1989. These are the oldest and tallest redwoods in Bulgaria, with an age of over 120 years and a height of over 30 m. Around them there are over 100 younger redwoods grown by seeds from the forest workers Iliya and Gyula Tsvetanski. Homeland of this millennial evergreen coniferous tree species is the Sierra Nevada Mountains - California. There is also a national park "Sequoia", where individual specimens are over 2000 years old, with a height of more than 100 meters and a diameter of 10-12 meters. Their name is connected with the name of the Indian chief Sequoia from the Cherokee tribe, creator of the red leather alphabet. The oldest redwoods are from 2200, but mankind learned about them only after 1850, when an Englishman accidentally discovered an entire forest. The tallest redwood is located in Humboldt County - 110.8 m. The largest redwoods grow in Redwood National Park, north of the California coast, which is a national heritage site and covers an area of 425 square kilometers. The largest giant redwoods grow in the Sequoia National Park and Biosphere Reserve in Central California, which covers 1,629 square kilometers.
