Overview

Peyo Yavorov House Museum is a memorial museum in the center of Chirpan, dedicated entirely to the life and work of the revolutionary poet Peyo Kracholov Yavorov. Peyo Yavorov was born in Chirpan on January 1, 1878 (January 13 in a new style) and lived in his native house until he was 17 years old. Apart from his active literary activity, Yavorov is also known as a participant in the Bulgarian national movement for the liberation of Macedonia and in the Balkan War. It was declared a museum on October 31, 1954 on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of his death, and in issue 72 of the State Gazette of 1977 it was also declared an architectural monument. Even before it was officially declared a museum, the house was visited. In 1924, on the 10th anniversary of the poet's death, his home was visited by Geo Milev and other artists. Because of this, later, Yavorov's older sister set aside one of the rooms in the house for the poet's admirers. The exposition of the museum presents the original household arrangement of the kitchen, the living room and the so-called Pey's room. In the living room you can see the portrait of Hadji Dimitar and Stefan Karadja. The living room is preserved in the form in which the Yavorov family arranged it, preparing to meet the poet and his wife Laura in September 1913. The middle room belonged to the poet's mother Gana Kracholova, where she loved to sing Bulgarian folk songs. In Pey's room is preserved the poet's desk, on which stood his favorite book - "Faust" by Johann Goethe, and his bed with metal bars. A bust of the poet is placed in the yard of the house-museum. In 1973 an exhibition hall was opened at the museum. It shows photos and things representing the life and work of Yavorov. Since 1968, the annual January Maple Days have been held in Chirpan. Their opening is on the poet's birthday - January 13. The cultural event is accompanied by literary readings, exhibitions, round tables and more. On July 13, 2006 the house-museum "Peyo Yavorov" was included in the list of the Hundred National Tourist Sites.
