Overview

Dimitar Peshev House Museum is a museum historical collection at the Regional Historical Museum in Kyustendil. It is a cultural monument. The restored house of Dimitar Peshev is located at 11 Tsar Simeon I Street, in the city center, behind the Vladimir Dimitrov-Maistora Art Gallery. In 2002, the Municipality of Kyustendil and the Ambassador of Israel, Mr. Emanuel Zisman, implemented a project to restore Dimitar Peshev's house and turn it into a museum. It is an exact copy of the native house of politics, adapted in the city center. The permanent exhibition with original items, photos and facsimiles tells about the events of March 1943 and the world-renowned merits of Dimitar Peshev and his fellow citizens of Kyustendil - Peter Mihalev, Asen Suichmezov, Vladimir Kurtev and Ivan Momchilov, who contributed to the salvation of the Jews. Bulgaria. The first part of the exhibition traces the life of Dimitar Peshev - family environment, education, service in the Bulgarian army and participation in the wars for national unification, education in law and professional realization as a judge and lawyer. The second part covers the period of Bulgaria's anti-Jewish policy (1941-1944), the discussions on the adoption of the Law on the Protection of the Nation, the events after the signing of the agreement between the Commissioner for Jewish Affairs Alexander Belev and the German representative Theodor Daneker for deportation of Bulgarian Jews. The third part includes materials about the life of Kyustendil representatives after March 1943, their personal destinies, the verdicts of the People's Court, public oblivion and gradual recognition, first by individual Jews and later by Israel, after 1990 by Bulgaria and various public and government agencies around the world.
