Krichim Monastery
Overview
Krichim Monastery of the Nativity of the Mother of God is a Bulgarian male Orthodox monastery in the vicinity of the town of Krichim, Bulgaria. The monastery is part of the Archdiocese of Plovdiv, of the Plovdiv Diocese of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church. The temple holiday of the monastery is on the Great Mother of God - August 15.
It is assumed that the monastery was founded in the IX-X [1] or in the XIII century. During the suppression of the April Uprising (1876) it was set on fire. It was rebuilt in the 20th century (1932) and has been in operation since 2006.
In his yard is preserved a large stone slab from a fountain with an inscription divided into two parts with a cross carried by two bird-like dragons. The upper inscription reads: "From the guardian (property) of the village of Bata (k), Velo, Geno, Teno, Anas (tas), Delo", and the lower one: in the summer of 1592 with the founder Elijah under the abbot Onuphrius. God forgive". This is the oldest donor fountain established in Bulgaria. As well as the oldest mention of the town of Batak.
The monastery is a complex of one-nave and one-apse church, a residential building and a beautiful stone fountain. In the past he had two convents: in the town of Krichim and in the village of Kozarsko.
The monastery has been declared a cultural monument.
