Overview

Granite oak is the oldest tree in Bulgaria. It is located in the village of Granit (Stara Zagora region) and is a type of summer oak. Studies have shown that he is over 1660 years old (dating from 345 AD). The crown of the tree is 1017 m2, the circumference of the stem - 7.45 m and the height - 23.40 m.

Unfortunately, in 1969, its largest branch on the north side broke. In 1983 and 1986 the wood was reinforced with metal structures. Nowadays, much of the oak has dried up, and only a dry skeleton with a few living branches remains of its huge crown.

In 1967 the Granite Oak was declared a Protected Site "Century Tree" under the name "Old Oak".
