Overview

Chifte Banya is a public bath in the town of Kyustendil, built on the foundations of a late medieval Turkish bath. It is located in the central part of the town of Kyustendil, between Hristo Smirnenski and Stefan Karadja streets, next to the Ahmed Bey mosque. The original Turkish bath was built in 1489 by Suleiman Pasha on the foundations of the Pautalian asclepion. In 1901 - 1902 the municipal government set itself the task of turning Kyustendil into a "European type of spa resort". Although the grandiose plan was not completed, a number of activities were carried out: in 1908 the hot mineral springs at the foot of Hisarlaka were captured; a water supply system has been built; in 1910 the late medieval "Chifte hamam" was partially destroyed on the foundations and a new modern city bath was built, with original architecture, designed by architect Hristo Kovachevski. The reconstruction and reconstruction of the bathroom was completed in September 1913. The building has two floors and consists of two compartments - male and female, each of which has three pools. The bathroom is supplied with hot mineral water. The bath is still used today and is also intended for balneology. Around it is the park "Banska gradina" with decorative trees and flower beds.
