Overview

Sopot Dam is located in northern Bulgaria. It is located in the middle part of the Fore-Balkans, approximately 30 km northwest of Troyan and 35 km southwest of Lovech near the village of Golyama Zhelyazna, only 4 km east of the village of Lesidren. It was built in 1961. Its length is 7 km, maximum width - 2 km and depth - 28 m. At full boiling it holds 61 million cubic meters of water. Its waters feed the Vit irrigation system and are used for irrigation of the Middle Danube Plain. Territories from the lands of the villages of Lesidren and Golyama Zhelyazna are flooded under its waters. Sopot Dam is easily accessible to fishermen and tourists. A road has been built from the south coast, which connects the villages of Lesidren and Golyama Zhelyazna, and from the north shore the road leads picturesquely from the dam wall to the village of Staro Selo. Both are connected to the Hemus motorway and are paved and maintained in good condition. It is known that Sopot is located in a unique, God-blessed place.

Association Club for Water Tourism "OSMOS" - Troyan has a base on the shore of the dam, which is used for its own needs and to welcome guests and lovers of water, fishing and water sports.
