Overview
The Astronomical Observatory is one of the most interesting places to visit in Kardzhali. A great opportunity for an exciting "star trip", the observatory is open for visits all week. Astronomical Observatory "Slavey Zlatev". It is located in Prostor Park. It is named after Slavey Zlatev, born on November 4, 1946 in Kardzhali. He graduated from the Faculty of Physics at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski ”.
In 1970 he established the Astronomical Observatory in Kardzhali. He is the founder of the Kardzhali branch of the Union of Scientists in Bulgaria. He is a member of the European Astronomical Society. Scientific supervisor of an international project for the development of space devices. Participates in the space projects "Shipka", "Lima-DR" and "Phobos". One of the founders of archaeoastronomy in Bulgaria. He died on September 14, 1992.
It has a 150 mm refractor and other smaller telescopes. Provides the opportunity for demonstration observations of various space objects. On the front facade of the building there is a sculpture, the author of which is our famous sculptor, Vezhdi Rashidov from Kardzhali.
The observatory is open to visitors almost all day. If you arrive there during the day, physicist astronomers will offer you a telescope observation with the sun, and if you arrive in the evening and the sky is clear you will have the opportunity to observe the stars, planets and constellations. In addition to observing celestial bodies, the observatory has a conference room where you can see popular science films related to astronomy. This is a wonderful opportunity to take an amazing walk to the vastness of space.
